Why to use a Mobile Notary
By Sammy Chabbott, Notary Public
A mobile notary is a licensed notary public who travels to the signer instead of the other way around. Same seal, same journal, same law. The difference is where it happens.
When it makes sense
When the signer can't travel: hospital patients, nursing home residents, people recovering at home. When several people need to sign at once: closings, corporate resolutions, wills with two witnesses. When the timing is off: a power of attorney at 9pm, a consent letter before a 6am flight.
What it costs
New York caps the notary fee at $2 per signature. A mobile notary adds a travel fee that depends on where you are and when you need it. Our pricing page shows the ranges and has an estimator.
What to have ready
Valid, unexpired photo ID for every signer, the complete and unsigned document, and any witnesses the document requires. The what-to-bring checklist covers the special cases.
